The Protest: Martin Luther, a parish priest,( in Germany) is disgusted with the selling of sins. Much religious upheaval. PROTESTANTISM is born. The Luthern Church.
Henry VIII and the Anglican Church: Henry wants an annulment. Pope declines, creates much friction. Henry starts his own church.
Pope Leo X begins selling indulgences because the Vatican is low on financial reserves. Vatican had spent much of its wealth on St. Peters' and the Sistine Chapel.
